He told his friends to stay put as they were sitting down in front of the pier. He told them that he was going to check on something down the other way, but that wasn’t the case. He wanted time alone to think about the night. Everything seemed going wrong for him. To his left were friends laughing and screaming as they ran down to a ride and the next. To his right were couples walking up and down the walkway, acting all passionate and intimate. All he could do was put his head down and continue to walk. He circled around the entire pier in despair. He finally reached the bridge that connected half of the pier to the other. As he crossed the bridge, he couldn’t help but at stare the ferris wheel across from him. The colorful lights flashed and circled in a dazzling motion. He decided to stay at the bridge. He took himself to the edge and stood there for a good two hours. Who knows what kind of thoughts ran through his head. Small tears started to run down, but they were quickly wiped off before they could race down his face. Then all the lights went off, and the presentation began. He watched it by himself, surrounded by strangers. He stared at the colorful lights and water. Somewhat amazed, somewhat disappointed, once it ended, he began making his way back to the bus. He knew from the very beginning that his night was done and finished.

You try to hold back the emotions that fall down your face. You wipe off the tears and finish signing off their yearbook. You skim through the page-long letter and give it back to your friend who is trying not to cry with you. But you break. You run into their arms and just let the tears flow down your face and onto the floor. Everyone else around you is doing the same. The thought keeps hitting, that you will never see these people again for a long time. It won’t be the same. It used to be that you’d hate coming to school and dealing with the people you don’t like. But now it’s a hold different story. You wish you had tried out for that sports team or tried out for the school play. You wish you participated more in your club or in your class acts. But it’s all over. Now, we just got to move on.
